Medical Associates of Cambridge has proudly served our community since 1929, when Dr. J.W. Camp, MD, and his wife, Emma Camp, RN, began providing compassionate healthcare as a dedicated husband-and-wife team. They cared for patients around the clock—day and night—in the office, at the hospital, and through nightly house calls across the county, embodying a deep commitment to accessible, personal care wherever it was needed.
In 1964, Dr. Camp partnered with his son-in-law, Dr. Joseph Goggin, MD—the first internist in the region—to form a growing practice. As demand increased, the office relocated from Steubenville Avenue to its current home on Maple Drive. In the early 1970s, the practice incorporated as Medical Associates of Cambridge and expanded into a multi-specialty group. Dr. Goggin recruited talented specialists, including Raj Tripathi, MD, and B.V. Chendraj, MD (Cardiology), B.V. Rangaswamy, MD (Pediatrics), and Eshwar Punjabi, MD (Gastroenterology). Together with their nurses and staff, they upheld the Camps' culture of service, delivering 24/7 coverage for decades—long before hospitalists or round-the-clock emergency rooms became standard.
Over the years, the Medical Arts Building has grown and been renovated to support our evolving needs, and we became the only local practice with a full-service, in-house laboratory. In the early 2000s, the next generation—Dr. Mark Goggin, MD, and Dr. Patrick Goggin, MD (grandsons of Dr. and Emma Camp), along with Dr. Doug Rush, MD—joined the team. They led the transition to electronic health records—making Medical Associates the first fully electronic practice in the region—while incorporating advanced practice providers, establishing team-based care groups, and launching a convenient walk-in clinic, all of which laid the foundation for broader modernization and enhanced patient access.
In recent years, we have innovated while honoring our founding values of whole-person care and putting patients first. We built a multidisciplinary Care Management Team—nurses, care coordinators, social workers, and pharmacists—to provide comprehensive, coordinated support for our most vulnerable and high-risk patients. We revived home visits as a heartfelt nod to Dr. and Emma Camp’s original house calls, delivering personalized care where it's needed most. Today, as a proudly independent, team-based practice, we partner with agilon health to deliver the Total Care Model—a value-based approach tailored for seniors and Medicare patients. This model replaces rushed, volume-driven visits with more time for physicians to listen, build trust, manage chronic conditions proactively, address full health needs, and coordinate seamless care—so patients never face the healthcare system alone.
Blending this with our broader vision, we pioneer a new model of primary care through collaboration among patients, caregivers, high-value specialists, and local health systems. By prioritizing prevention, personalization, and patient control, we keep our community healthier, reduce unnecessary hospitalizations, deliver exceptional and affordable care, and set the regional standard for independent primary care—honoring nearly a century of dedication while advancing health for generations to come.
